Mumbai: Rahul Raj, the youth from Patna who was killed when he threatened bus passengers with a gun in Mumbai, was shot by the police from close range.
This is a statement made in the forensic report. Raj, 23, allegedly shot and injured a bus conductor and threatened bus passengers on October 27.
The report says there were dark marks around a bullet wound on Raj’s face, caused by gunpowder burns. This suggests the police was close enough to disarm Raj.
A four-member panel of forensic experts from the J J Hospital found there were five entry wounds in his body, all in the chest and head region. There were only four exit wounds and one bullet was recovered.
The report also says that the Mumbai police fired at least 12-13 rounds on Raj, who allegedly refused to surrender or throw away his gun.
Dr B G Chikalkar, a member of the forensic team, told CNN-IBN that the report would all aspects of the ‘encounter’ clear.
Rahul’s sister Priyanka alleged that the forensic report confirms her family’s allegation that her brother was killed in a staged encounter.
The report would be given to the state government shortly and it may embarrass the Mumbai Police, which has been under fire from Bihar politicians who allege that Raj was shot dead in cold blood.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan have alleged that the Mumbai police could have disarmed and captured Raj.
Raj, an X-ray technician, allegedly told the bus passengers that he wanted to meet Maharashtra Navnirman Seva leader Raj Thackeray.
