Bhopal: After Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Ba Ba Black Sheep, it's the turn of Guruji mujhko chacha Nehru bana do.
The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has decided to do away with this poem that eulogises Nehru from the class one Hindi textbook.
Guruji mujhe chaha Nehru bana do is the poem that introduced school children to Jawaharlal Nehru. It also reflected Nehru's fondness for children.
But now the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to do away with the poem, saying it's just part of the change in curriculum.
Madhya Pradesh education minister, Narottam Mishra says, "We have not removed anything but have just changed it. When we change the curriculum new things come in and the old go and if there is no change how can it be called new?"
The government has also decided to exclude a chapter by Nehru on his wife Kamla Nehru, from the fourth grade text book.
Another short story Abu Khan Ki Bakri by Dr Zakir Hussain also doesn't feature in the seventh grade textbook anymore.
And all this in the name of change in syllabus.
But this 'change' has not gone down well with the Congress in the Opposition. They have promised to bring back the excluded chapters once the party is back in power.
General Secretary Congress Manak Aggarwal says, "No one can forget the personality of Jawaharlal Nehru and Zakir Hussain and the fact that they have been removed from school text books just reflects the blinkered outlook of the BJP."
The BJP on the other hand claims this is a non-issue and hence Nehru's letter to Indira Gandhi has been introduced in the class four text book.
