New Delhi: After the recent polls, Pakistan may well be on its way to full fledged democracy. Or so hopes former Pakistani diplomat Arshad Sami Khan who's launching his book Three Presidents and an Aide in India soon.
“I can only pray that we finally come across as a democratic country,” he says.
Khan's book covers one of the most turbulent periods in the history of the subcontinent, with a glimpse into the minds of the Pakistani leadership and its military which fought two wars with India.
The personal insight comes from the fact that Khan served as aide to three Pakistani presidents and shared a special relationship with the Bhutto family, having worked with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir to whom he has dedicated the book.
“My heart cries for her. She was a great leader,” he says.
And even if you haven't heard much of this former Pakistani diplomat, there's no way you could have escaped the vocals of his son - popular singer and musician Adnan Sami.
“He made a beginning to bring his talent here and India gave him a big hug held him together in her arms and appreciated his music. My intention is very similar. I could have launched the book in Pakistan but I thought of bringing the countries together. I am very confident there will be peace. There has to be. We are going to hold each others hands and be a force to reckon with,” he signs off.
