New Delhi: Nepal's parliament will form an interim government on Saturday, which will see the Maoists bag five ministries.

The government will be formed after the top leaders of the eight parties including Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and CPN-Maoist chief Prachanda sign a key document that will include common minimum programme, code of conduct and porfolio distribution, Nepali Congress (Democratic) general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi told PTI.

After the eight-party meeting endorses the portfolio distribution and other important issues, the new government will be announced through the interim parliament, he said.

As per the understanding, Prime Minister Koirala will submit his resignation to the Speaker of the parliament for fresh mandate from the members to head a new interim government.

The Parliament will have to endorse the formation of the new government, which is likely to include 26 ministers including the Prime Minister.

The country's largest party, Nepali Congress will retain key ministries such as Home, Defence and Finance besides the post of Prime Minister. The other major parties CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist will each get five portfolios while the NC (Democratic) will get four ministers.

The rest three ministries will be distributed among three small parties.

The Maoists, who took up arms in 1996 to abolish monarchy and establish a communist republic, announced permanent ceasefire last year and joined the interim parliament a couple of months ago.

The interim government inclusive of the Maoists will have the task of steering the country into Constituent Aassembly polls.
