New constitution is democratic: PCB tells court

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board has told the Sindh High Court that the new constitution of the board, approved by the country's President, has made it more democratic as per the directives of the ICC.

Pakistan's former captain, Rashid Latif has filed a petition in the court, which challenged several clauses of the old constitution while terming the appointment of the chairman and director general cricket as undemocratic.

At the hearing held on Thursday the legal advisor of the board, Tafazzul Rizvi's reply to the board was read out and it stated that 70 percent of the objections raised by Latif had been cleared in the new constitution.

Rashid Latif has filed a petition in the court, which challenged several clauses of the old constitution.

"I didn't attend the hearing but my lawyer, Sattar Pirzada, has told me that the PCB, in its reply, has said that 70 per cent changes have been made in the new constitution clauses and now there is a election system for the general body and council and also for the chairman," Latif told PTI.

"The PCB has also said that it is willing to sit down and discuss the new constitution with us. We have not seen a copy of the new constitution but their lawyer has said a copy will be submitted to the court as soon as the board gets the gazetted copy from the government," Latif said.
