Waters, a prominent New Zealand businessman, was previously deputy chairman and replaces Strong, who died in Sydney aged 68 from complications following surgery.

Sydney: Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket on Wednesday appointed Ralph Waters as chairman of the organising committee for the 2015 World Cup after the death of James Strong, last week.

Waters, a prominent New Zealand businessman, was previously deputy chairman and replaces Strong, who died in Sydney aged 68 from complications following surgery. "Like myself, James had lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand and was determined to put on a truly world class tournament in 2015," said Waters.

"I share his vision and will work closely with the ICC (International Cricket Council), Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket to deliver a successful tournament for cricket fans around the world." The World Cup takes place in Australia and New Zealand in February-March 2015.
