Baton Rouge (Louisiana): The youngest of his three children may have gone to sleep, but Bobby Jindal was very awake to the reality of becoming the Governor-elect of Louisiana with and he had a message to his cheering supporters.
“I stand here tonight tremendously excited and exceedingly optimistic about the opportunity to make real change and turn our state around,” said Jindal.
His New Delhi-born wife Supriya was a constant presence by his side during the campaign and he thanked her in his own way.
“Those who know me well know there is no Bobby without Supriya. We celebrated our 10thwedding anniversary two nights ago in that most romantic of places - the final debate,” he said.
There was also gratitude towards his parents who immigrated to the US from India and made this day possible for Bobby Jindal.
“You can never adequately thank everybody but since I do respect my elders I want to take just a moment to thank my parents. My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream,” said Jindal.
Jindal was gracious in victory but clear that he would immediately focus on cleansing the state of Louisiana of corruption.
Strong words and humour marked Bobby Jindal's victory speech as he made history in so many ways in winning this election. He will take over as Governor of Louisiana on January 14, 2008.
