New 'see-through' bikini to protects skin tan

Press Trust Of India

London: A tan-resistant swim suit may be a solution for those who want to enjoy a sun bath without having tan lines on their skin.

A costume firm has claimed to have designed a new "see-through" bikini which allows 80 per cent sun light to pass through, filtering the harmful Ultra Violet rays.

Though the costume looks transparent when held up in the sun, the human eyes cannot penetrate the fabric which carries thousands of microscopic holes in the Transol Yarn, described as 'chicken-wire mesh material' by the underwear manufacturer Kinki.

"The raw material is transparent when held up to the light but the wearer's modesty is preserved by special animal prints and abstract patterns which confuse the eye, so onlookers can only see a solid block of fabric," the Daily Mail reported.

The range includes all-in-one swimsuit, bikinis and wraps for women, plus briefs, hipsters and tangas for men, costing between between £17.43 to £34.68.

"The tan-through range uses a common yarn, polybutylene terephthalate known as PBT, a synthetic material with an elastic stretch that does not contain any lycra.

"This makes it more resistant to suncream, chlorine and seawater and is more breathable for the wearer," claimed John Walker, who owns the Staffordshire-based firm which launched the clothes in the market four weeks ago.
