New Delhi: School students in the capital have come together to publish a newsletter dealing with important adolescent issues.
Some of them got together to make - Youthoria, an eight-page bi-monthly newsletter started in association with a panel of psychiatrists which tries to answer everything you ever wanted to know about everything, but didn't know how to ask.
The pamphlet, which is for the youth by the youth, focuses on everything from -
"Peer pressure to substance abuse, societal pressure, exams –anything and everything that bothers adolescents and is relate to them,” says a class 12 student, Neha Agarwal.
And the students know how to get their points across – you enjoy while you read and you gain knowledge.
Meanwhile, teenagers are responding to the newsletter and queries are pouring in. And the young editors feel their initiative will go far.
"It’s like a revolution because In India we don't have a newsletter just for the youth,” says another class 12 student, Raghav Sabharwal.
Soon to be published in Hindi as well, the newsletter will also go online by August. And the psychiatrists who help the students share their enthusiasm.
"The youth make up 23 crore of our population. It's a knitting together of the adolescent mind. It will help bond the adolescent population,” says Psychiatrist, Dr Jitendra Nagpal.
Student initiatives like this one must be encouraged as they manage to clarify many misconceptions, which creep up during crucial growing up years. And who better to communicate these issues to teenagers, than teenagers themselves.
