New Delhi: Mumbai saw a different kind of rescue operation unfolding on Wednesday afternoon when a group of owls, living in a residential complex, had to be rescued.

Some owls had made a nest in a crack in the wall of a residential complex in Mumbai and the residents say they made a lot of noise.

"They used to make a lot of noise in the evenings and it was disturbing," a resident Shubhra Verma said.

"I used to throw water on them to shoo them," said Astik, a six-year-old resident.

When all efforts to shoo away the owls failed, residents approached a local NGO. Rescuers rappelled down the building and after a strenuous one-hour effort they finally managed to extract the three huge owls out of the nest.

"We will give them to the forest department now, to be released in the forest," Bibhas Amonkar, conservationist and rock climber, said.

While their parents heaved a sigh of relief, some children seemed to be a little disappointed.

One can only hope that at least the owls will be happy when they find a new home in the forest.
