New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission today said it will send a team for conducting an on-the-spot inquiry into alleged police firing and killing of four persons in Forbesganj in Bihar on June 3.

The rights panel has asked its Director General (Investigation) to depute a team to the area in Araria district of the state.

Four persons, including a woman and a baby, were killed in police firing on local residents protesting the alleged blocking of a road for a factory in the area. A CPM delegation had on June 15 raised the issue with NHRC Chairman

KG Balakrishnan and said that he has promised necessary action in the matter.

"Those killed included a pregnant woman and a ten months old child. Allegedly, after shooting down the persons, the policemen also kicked one of them with boots crushing him to death finally," the NHRC said.

The Commission said it has taken the decision to send a probe team after consideration of complaints filed by Rajya Sabha MP Brinda Karat, human rights activist Mohan Lal Panda, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan, who also led a delegation to meet Balakrishnan seeking his intervention in the matter.

"A delegation led by Shabnam Hashmi of NGO SAHMAT also met the Chairperson in this connection," it noted.
