Bangalore: After the crackdown by the Bangalore police on the city's pubs and discotheques, the DJs in Bangalore are a distressed lot, as they are on the verge of being out of work.
Most Bangaloreans are staying away from the party circuit and it's making life difficult for the city's DJs.
"They are not letting us do our jobs, it's affecting our income. Even we have families to support," says DJ Goapu.
However, the police say they are just enforcing the Karnataka Excise Act by the crackdown on all places of public entertainment in the city.
Meanwhile, DJs across the city say the administration needs to understand that it can't treat restaurants and clubs the same way dance bars are treated.
"What we need to do is, convey to the authorities that the act of a few individuals should not affect the entire industry. All we are trying to do is to collect good music and entertain people," says Goapu.
The crackdown by the police has seen business in restaurants and discos go down by almost 80 percent.
And DJs like Goapu say that if things continue to go on the way they are, it will leave them with no other option.
"If I am a chef and then there are no people to serve food to, there are only two options that I can choose from, I can stop cooking, get into marketing and sell socks, or I could move to a place which encourages my art which is disc jockeying," explains Goapu.
Moving away may not be the first option for many DJs on Bangalore, but if things remain the same, then there would be a time when one would have to go to nearby Mysore too see one's favourite Bangalore DJ perform.
