New Delhi: A special court on Wednesday charged Moninder Singh Pandher, the businessman under arrest for serial murders in UP’s Nithari village, with the rape and murder of a woman.
Pandher was charged in the death of Payal, who was allegedly a call girl and whose disappearance led police to buried bodies near the businessman’s bungalow in Nithari. This is the first time that he has been charged with murder in the case.
Pandher and Surender Koli, his domestic help, were arrested in December 2006 for the murders of at least 19 children but later the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) absolved the businessman. The agency claims Koli has confessed to the murders, which occurred when Pandher was out of the bungalow.
In several charge sheets filed before the CBI court in Ghaziabad, the agency has said that Pandher had no knowledge that Koli had raped and murdered children in his bungalow.
The CBI’s decision has shocked Nithari residents, who allege that the authorities had ignored their complaints that many children had disappearing from the village since 2005.
