Noida: Two days after the gruesome details of the Noida serial killings were given out by the two men who confessed to raping and killing children, the police are still finding more skeletal remains.
The count of skeletons unearthed rose to 17 on the third day on Sunday.
Not only are the residents of Nithari village out on the streets protesting police apathy, but the issue is fast acquiring political overtones.
"We demand a CBI inquiry into the deaths," said BSP President Mayawati.
With Opposition moving fast to corner the government by making it a law and order issue, the state government has swung into action.
Compensation of Rs 2 lakh is to be given to the family of the victims.
Meanwhile, two more policemen have been suspended for dereliction of duty.
UP DGP Bua Singh, while visiting Nithari village, assured that all guilty officers will be punished.
Home Secretary A K Sinha and R M Srivastava are scheduled to visit Nithari.
"The guilty will be punished," said SSP Noida R K S Rathore.
The remains of the bodies recovered have been sent for forensic tests at Agra and Hyderabad, but it's an agonising wait for those around Nithari village whose children went missing in the last two years.
"He says that there is ambiguity over who has died and who has not. We would like these children to be alive," said DM Noida Rajesh Chauhan.
As fate of more than three dozen missing children still remain uncertain in this rarest of the rare case, the situation at Nithari remains volatile.
