Nitin Gadkari cancels HP campaign; state BJP wants him to stay away?

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari's dubious business dealings are taking their political toll. The BJP President has had to cancel campaigning in Himachal Pradesh amidst reports that the state unit doesn't want him there.

With reports that his tour to poll bound Himanchal may affect party's prospects in the state, as some state leaders expressed apprehensions, Gadkari cancelled his two rallies at Solan and Bilaspur. But party leaders are giving a completely different spin to the story.

The beleaguered leader facing a slew of corruption allegations, instead, is going to Mumbai on Tuesday, to consult his legal team. His aim is clear - to prepare a strong legal case as early as possible, and at the same time preparing to fight it politically. He is planning a show of strength later this week in Nagpur.

The BJP President has had to cancel campaigning in Himachal Pradesh amidst reports that the state unit doesn\'t want him there.

The man at the centre of the storm is not giving up yet. He has said that he'll fight charges against him legally and politically. "I haven't done anything wrong. I have come to tell you this because you know me from my childhood." Gadkari said.

These developments came just before the crucial RSS national executive which will begin later this week. The RSS has so far been supportive of Gadkari, but then, trouble for Gadkari is more inside the BJP than outside.
