Jodhpur: Two days after rats were found to be nibbling on a 70-year-old patient on life support in Jodhpur, the Rajasthan government is yet to fix responsibility. This is the same hospital where more than 20 women died during child birth in 2011.
Muhammad Iqbal who is a paralytic stroke patient in Mathura Das Mathur Hospital was bitten by rodents on Tuesday night. The families of patients at the hospital say that hygiene is extremely poor even in the ICU.
So far a nurse and the care taker of the hospital have been suspended. But the hospital has been under the scanner for poor hygiene for months now - after a series of maternal deaths. More shockingly, in 2009 an infant reportedly died after being attacked by rodents.
"It's shocking and unfortunate. We will certainly fix responsibility in this case. We have set up a three member committee to look into the matter. They should submit their report soon. Also we have served notices to the contractor for maintenance and nursing superintendent," Rajasthan Health Minister Aimuddin Ahmed Khan said.
In the third case of shocking negligence at government hospitals in Jodhpur, while the government has assured action the families of the patients at the MDM hospital can only hope this assurance leads to solid action unlike the previous ones.
