New Delhi: Security has been tightened at Delhi's railway stations in view of the festival season. Passengers will now have to carry identity and address proof for verification of tickets.
Those who are unable to do so will be fined Rs 500 for travelling on transferred tickets. The guilty can also be imprisoned for up to three months.
Authorities have said that the station premises will be closed to all non-passengers to decongest the platforms during the festive season.
Also, no platform tickets will be sold at the New Delhi and Sarai Rohila stations from November 7 to 15. An additional force of 400 home guards will be deployed at these stations.
Meanwhile, Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed militant outfit has threatened to blow up railway stations across north India and popular religious places including the Vaishno Devi shrine.
A letter written by one Tasleen Maulvi was sent to an office at Delhi Railway Junction on Thursday evening that JeM would trigger explosions in various railway stations of north India, railway and police officials told PTI on Friday.
The handwritten letter, which bears the stamp of a Meerut post office, also threatened to target religious shrines.
Railway stations like New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Amritsar, Ludhiana had been mentioned in the Jaish hit list.
Railway authorities had handed over the letter to the police, and efforts are still on to trace its source.
