New Delhi: Traffic continues to move bumper to bumper on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway which has been delayed by over two years.
The 27-km expressway was supposed to provide a traffic solution for commuters heading to Gurgaon, Dwarka and the Delhi airport.
But 15 days after the scheduled day of opening, the commuters are wondering why they are still having to deal with the congestion and traffic jams in the area.
Sxity-year-old Jasbir Chaddha is one among that agitated lot. Part of the 50-strong delegation representing various Resident Welfare Associations in the Capital who broke the barricades and declared the Rao Tularam Marg-Palam flyover in Delhi open on Monday evening.
But Chadda insists the move was more of a symbolic gesture. “This is a token protest, we are doing this make a point,” he said.
The expressway was to be completed by 2005. But three deadlines have come and gone and the concerned agencies have no clear answer on the delay.
Speculation about the delay range from authorities waiting for a VIP inauguration to the toll booths that are still under construction. Either way, till there is more clarity on the issue, it remains a bumper to bumper existence for commuters in Delhi.
Developer DS constructions told CNN-IBN: We are still awaiting clearances from the National Highway Authority of India. Some formalities are still pending.
The NHAI has refused to comment.
