No fear of being compared with Deols: Abhay

After tasting a lot of luck and success in acting, Bollywood actor Abhay Deol is now taking on a new role - that of producing films. CNN-IBN tracked him down and got him talking about his latest film, Basra.

CNN-IBN: Tell us about your upcoming film Basra.

Abhay Deol: I haven't spoken much about Basra. I have announced the fact that I am producing it and I have launched a banner for my films. It has been directed by Navdeep, who I have worked with before in Manorama Six Feet Under.

CNN-IBN: As a producer, will you be funding more niche movies like the ones you have done so far or will you be producing commercial films as well?

Abhay Deol: I joke and tell everybody when they ask me what kind of movies are you going to make and I say hardcore Bollywood ones. I haven't been quoted yet and no one is really taking me seriously. But honestly, the idea is to make films that kind of meet you halfway.

CNN-IBN: Your family members have been the icons of the action genre - Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Is there a fear that you will be compared?

Abhay Deol: I've been compared right from day one whether I did action or not. After being asked time and again, film after film, year after year, the fear goes away because the most common question that I am asked is about me being related to them. It's like people are bound to ask, bound to compare - whatever.

CNN-IBN: With your film Aisha, for the first time we will see you star with an A-list actor. So does that mean Abhay Deol is now getting into more of a commercial image?

Abhay Deol: I have never looked at whether my co-star is A-listed or not. I know there is this one approach to your work where you look at who you are starring opposite and that kind of puts you in the same level as them. I don't know - I have never got that. So I don't know how to answer your question really. I think work should really speak for itself.

CNN-IBN: What do you really love about Sonam Kapoor as a person and as a co-star (in Aisha)?

Abhay Deol: She's very young, she's kind of naughty and she's got this mind where she is constantly looking to have some fun. It's all in good faith.
