New Delhi: The Delhi government has filed an affidavit in the High Court regarding nursery admissions. It says there will be no interviews or lottery system during admissions in an attempt to make the admission procedure transparent.
However, the government says that it will be left to individual schools to decide on the basis for admissions.
Earlier, the High Court had asked the government to come up with an alternative soon as it could not leave the schools to decide on admission criteria.
Schools will also have to publish on their websites, the list of students admitted and the grounds on which they were selected.
The Delhi government says the notification will be done shortly, after it is signed by the Lt Governor.
Last week the government had planned to axe certain sections of the controversial Ashok Ganguly report — such as parents educational qualifications or whether either parent is an alumnus of the school.
The government was also thinking of doing away with the clause of the child having a sibling in the same school.
However, the government had agreed with the neighbourhood policy, according to which a child who lives close to the school will get preference in admission.
A division bench of the High Court had then issued a notice to the Directorate of Education seeking comments on the Ganguly Committee recommendations four years as the age for the admission in nursery classes.
