New Delhi: The Delhi Police commissioner met Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday and sources have said that the police is likely to deny permission to Anna Hazare to hold a fast at Jantar Mantar in Delhi as it has imposed Section 144 from August 1. Government sources have said that Anna will not be allowed to go on fast and Burari and Ajmal Khan Park, far away from Delhi have been offered as options.

A day after a confident and brazen government dumped team Anna's version of the Lokpal Bill, its nervousness and worry has begun to show.

The civil society has condemned this denial.

The earlier fast of Anna at Jantar Mantar and the wave of anti-corruption campaigns that it launched has unnerved the government and they don't want a repeat of that.

Anna's campaign made the UPA look weaker in the backdrop of scams and corruption charges and the mismanagement of Baba Ramdev is haunting them.

So Anna will not be allowed to reach Jantar Mantar on the grounds that the area is too small for public meeting and an indefinite fast tantamounts to suicide.
