New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on said the Congress has formed a co-ordination committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to start preparations for the polls early. When asked whether the Congress was preparing for early polls, Digvijaya Singh said, "The Antony committee had recommended early preparation for polls. This committee is based on that."
When asked whether heading the committee was a risk for Rahul, Digvijaya Singh said, "Where is the risk? After all if politician doesn't take a challenge, how would any politician survive in politics? So this is something the Congress has to take a call on and we've taken a call."
Rahul Gandhi will be the face of the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He will head the co-ordination committee to strategise for 2014. Congress seems to be taking a huge risk by making Rahul the mascot for the next polls given that he was criticised for the Uttar Pradesh debacle. The Congress is also at a low when facing the polls with a double anti-incumbency to deal with. Rising prices, unpopular decisions like the cap on LPG and fuel hike has put the party in a precarious position.
Apart from this, the Congress will have a publicity group and its members would be Ambika Soni, Digvijaya Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Manish Tewari.
