No question of a 125-year-old party being scared of anyone: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress said it will remain in ministry despite Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee saying door was open for it to quit the alliance. Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi speaking on Congress-TMC alliance on Saturday said that there may be disagreements between both parties but these are part of a coalition government.

"We will be able to solve this problem by discussions," asserted Singhvi.

He also stated that there is no question of a 125-year-old party to be scared of anyone.

Earlier in the day, hitting out at the Congress over the Lokpal Bill and petrol prices, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee said the Congress is free to join the CPI(M). "I fought for Singur and Nandigram on my own. I don't need them. They keep saying the same thing all the time," Mamata had said.

Speaking on the recent controversy in the BJP camp over induction of Babu Singh Kushwaha, Singhvi said, "The BJP tries to fish in trouble waters. It tried unsuccessfully to be a narad muni. They are desperate and deserve to be dealt with scorn."

Singhvi also said that the channels of communication have not been broken down between Congress and TMC.

On the Election Commission's proposal to cover Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati's statue, Singhvi said, "EC takes appropriate steps at appropriate time. The EC is fully alive to a situation like this."
