Bangalore: Bangalore has seen five swine flu deaths till now but still unlike Pune there is no panic in the city.

A day after the fifth swine flu death was reported in the city, there were hardly 30-40 people lined up at Bangalore’s H1N1 testing centre to get themselves checked.

“Government of India has revised guidelines on who to test and who to treat into categories A, B and C. This reduces panic levels. Schools are not being closed and we are closely monitoring the situation. There is no panic among the kids and parents,” says Joint Director (Communicable Diseases) Dr TS Chaluvaraju.

There are more than 60 patients getting treated for the H1N1 virus in Bangalore. But as 86 people affected by dengue and 485 affected by chikungunya, they are obviously more worrying factors for both health officials and the general public.

But there are some like Advocate S Vasudeva who feel the administration needs to do more on the swine flu front.

Last week, he moved the high court, asking it to tell the government to improve infrastructure to fight the flu.

“Preventive measures are required to contain the disease. If you are not prepared what is the point of beating your chest after people die,’ says PIL petitioner, Advoate S Vasudeva.

While, some people wearing masks are seen in the crowded places in the city, there are many who believe that it is the season for all kinds of seasonal flu anyway.
