No water, no bhang; this Holi is unique

Kolkata: No water, no chemical colours, no bhang and no chaotic celebrations here. At Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata's Shantiniketan Holi is celebrated in Rabindranath Tagore's style.

The students dance to Tagore's song and apply traditional gulal on their friends in the true spirit on the festival of colours. But this Holi celebration, too, is immense fun.

Says Jinia Chokroborty, a Rabindra Bharati student: "This is like the festival of Santiniketan. We danced, sang and played with colours and the best part is our teachers participated as well ."

At this time of the year, even the teachers are not spared. So you can easily spot two senior dance teachers doing a tango, Tagore style that is!

The students, of course, need no coaxing. The university lawn hosts impromptu dance recitals for three hours as a prelude and then it's time to paint the town red! Literally!

"I have never had so much fun in Holi in my life," reveals a jubilant Deepan Maitra, another student.

So if you want to celebrate Holi or the Dol in true Bengali tradition, you know where to look.
