Beijing: Less than half an hour after Chinese writer Mo Yan was announced the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, his books were sold out in China.

A person who was lucky enough to get his book, posted online: "Rushed to purchase, but to my shame, I have not read any of his novels."

Mo's works turned to "sold-out" status at China's major online book sellers less than half an hour after the announcement from Stockholm Thursday, reported Xinhua.

Nobel laureate Mo Yan\'s books sold out

In less than half an hour of the Nobel Prize in Literature\'s announcement his books were sold out in China.

Mo, whose novels were translated into several languages, was honoured with the prize, beating his major Japanese competitor who is more popular in China, Haruki Murakami.

Mo's novel "Big Breasts & Wide Hips", translated by Howard Goldblatt, tells a story of a mother who struggled and suffered hardship and intertwined fates with Chinese people in the 20th century.

His more recent work "Frog" more directly criticised China's one-child family policy, which helped control the country's population explosion but also brought tragedies to rural residents in the past 60 years.
