New Delhi: Three days since two alleged Pakistani terrorists were shot dead by a team of the UP ATS and the Noida Police, there are no breakthroughs in the investigations.
No senior officials have even commented on the exact identity of the two alleged terrorists.
Additional director general of police, law and order, Crime and Anti-Terrorist Squad Brij Lall said, “Two suspected terrorists were shot dead by the UP police in an encounter that took place at 0215 hours (IST) last night (January 25).”
The pat on the back came, perhaps, a little too soon. The UP police had claimed their men had foiled a huge disaster just before Republic Day but the cops have no clue as to how the disaster was planned or managed.
Lal said, “Agar RDX aur AK-47 leke ghoom rahein hain toh koiye acha kaam to karne nahi jaa rahe honge (Obviously, men possessing RDX and AK-47 are not going to do a good job).”
This was enough evidence for the cops to nail Abu Ismail and Ali Ahmed as terrorists but apart from their passports and a few documents found from their rucksack, the police has made no headway in their investigations.
However, the questions that are popping up are which terror module did the duo belong to? Why were no cell phones or SIMSAT found on them? Who was co-ordinating their operations? Where was their local hideout? Who helped them get the car and accommodation near the Capital?
Officials say they got the tip off around midnight. The men were chased from Lal Kuan in Ghaziabad to sector 97 in Noida.
The car was intercepted near Amity school. The two men were gunned down near Hajipur village, a deserted stretch with no habitation. Ironically this was the same place where two previous encounters were also carried out. The police claim there was an exchange of fire.
Lal also said, Unhone gaadi se pehle goli chaliye aur jab unke tyre pe goli lagein toh gaadi rukh gaye (They started firing first and when their car tyre got deflated by our bullet, the car stopped).
According to the cops, the ATS team fired back from this gypsy. Then how come there were no bullet marks on the car at all>
The significance of an encounter a day before the republic day is definitely high but the police version of the latest encounter seems too simplistic. If officials don’t make any headway in the investigations in the next few days, the encounter would surely raise more eyebrows.
