Nokia customers get no replacement for faulty batteries

New Delhi: Nokia might have recalled the defective bl-5c batteries but the problems over the issue seem to be far from over.

23-year-old Vivek Kumar was one of Nokia phone users whose battery was found susceptible to overheating and blasts. Following a worldwide recall of BL-5C battery, Vivek went online and placed a request for the replacement. Two-months have passed but the customer has neither got his new battery, nor a conclusive reply from the company. His visits to Nokia care centre have also gone in vain.

“It’s been 2 months and I have not received any communication from Nokia till now. Now when I go online, the status shows that the battery has been delivered. But I have not received any communication or courier from Nokia so far,” he says.

There are many more like Vivek who continue to wait for a response from the mobile company. When contacted by CNBC TV18, Nokia India in a written communication said, “Currently 75 per cent of the requests under the advisory have already been processed and we are hopeful of completing the remaining as soon as possible.”

The company added, it was trying to expedite the procedure by beginning to hand out the batteries at Nokia Care Centre besides delivering them at home.

Nokia India says that out of 46 million batteries that fall under this advisory worldwide, only 100 have reported malfunction and the advisory is a precautionary step on company's part. However people are already unsure about the safety of their product and this protraction might not go down well with the idea of "connecting people".
