New Delhi: In North India it’s the time to celebrate for it’s Chhoti Holi this Friday.
This day marks the final build-up to the main Holi festival on Saturday. The main festivities centre on the traditional bonfire lit in the evening. It also celebrates the completion of the barley harvest.
In Bengal too, the day is observed as Basanta Utsav celebrated on Dol Purnima.
While festivities in most of Bengal are akin to traditional Holi celebrations, it’s a different story at Shantiniketan. Here the Basanta Utsav celebrations are replete with song and dance.
