New Delhi: Drought could soon be a reality in North India. The Met department predicts a large gap between the actual and normal rainfall this season.
“It is not drought. Some reasons are not getting enough rains but it is just a rainfall deficiency,” says Director IMD Delhi B P Yadav.
The North India is now witnessing an overall rainfall shortage of 46 per cent.
Uttar Pradesh tops the list with a shortfall of 76 per cent. The agriculture belt of Punjab is seeing a 69 per cent deficit. Not far behind are Uttarkhand and Himachal Pradesh with 66 per cent rainfall shortage.
Haryana and Delhi saw a little more rain but they are still 57 per cent behind normal rainfall.
But the Met department is still positive and says the situation may ease over the next few weeks.
“We predict some rain and thundershowers over the next few days but won’t be that heavy,” says Yadav.
