New Delhi: It's the coldest day of the season in the Capital with the mercury dipping to 4.2 degrees early Wednesday morning. Temperatures across North India are also below normal.

Eight-year old Sujana Bora hates winter and detests putting on one layer of clothing after another to beat the chill. It is painful for her to leave her bed in the morning. “I hate getting up in the morning and I have to wear so many layers of clothing,” says Sujana.

Not only Delhi, the temperatures plummeted across North India, hovering between one and five degree celsius in most places. On Wednesday, Chandigarh recorded a low of 3 degrees celsius. The Dal Lake in srinagar partially froze on Monday with the mercury falling to minus 2.4 degrees.

The meteorological department says that the chill is because of the western disturbance. It also predicts a slight increase in temperatures in the plains over the next couple of days.

This sunshine is rather deceptive as the minimum temperature is the Capital has fallen to 4.2 degree celsius, making it the coldest day of the season. However, meteorological department predicts that there will three to four more of such cold spells in January.
