North India reels under heat wave

New Delhi: It was another sweltering day for Delhiites on Sunday as the temperatures hovered around four to five degrees above normal.
The mercury crossed the 45-degree mark on Saturday and it is still very hot in the Capital. But people are still braving it out.
“It's very hot and we should not have come out. By the time you get back to your car, it's like an oven. My advice is stay at home and drink lots of water,” says one Delhiite who was out on Sunday for shopping.
The heat wave continues to claim more lives. At least 21 people died on Sunday- that's the highest in one day this season.
Nine people died in Uttar Pradesh, where the heat and prolonged power cuts made for a deadly combination.
Four people died in Allahabad. Even the capital saw its first heat-related deaths - two people were found dead in a public park. Amritsar in Punjab recorded a maximum of 46 degrees, six degrees above normal.
Hisar in Haryana was almost as bad at 45.5 degrees. Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh also recorded temperatures well above normal.
Jaipur was blazing at 45.2 degree Celsius, 0.3 degrees more than the maximum temperature recorded on Saturday.
Bikaner was sizzling at 44.4 degrees, while Ajmer recorded a maximum temperature of 42.1 degrees, Jodhpur at 40.8 degrees and Dabok near Udaipur at 39 degrees.
Even hill stations like Shimla experienced temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius, the highest in the month of June in the past 12 years.
Similar was the situation in Srinagar, with Delhi-based tourists cutting short their vacation. The Valley recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, sending tourists into a tizzy.
