Mumbai: The tirade against north Indians in Maharashtra continues no signs of abating.
On Friday night, five taxi drivers – all of them hailing from north Indian states – were allegedly beaten up in Lower Parel and Worli areas of Mumbai.
Police have arrested four people in connection with the attack. However, they are not confirming whether the assailants belong to any political party.
“This incident happened at around 3 am, we have detained four people,” says police inspector, Deelip Eknath Ugle.
One of the taxi drivers alleges that they were targetted because they were north Indians.
“Some people stopped us and asked ‘Marathi or bhaiya’. After that, the pelting stone on our taxi,” recalls taxi driver Rajeev Singh.
