New Delhi: Its Rahman's Jai Ho, penned by lyricist Gulzar, that has won the maestro the golden globe for Best Original Music Score. It's got his signature upbeat melody as well as his trademark emotional quotient.
But it's not just jai ho that's a winner Rahman’s score for the Slumdog millionaire is a playful experiment.
Mixing his trademark teases with the very different sound of Srilankan dancehall girl Maya Arulpragasam in tracks like o saya and paper planes.
Then there is the Gangsta blues with Chennai rapper Blazee and Sonu nigam, Alka Yagnik, Alisha Chinai and Sukhwinder Singh are also spread out over the score with a tempo ranging from dramatic to lulling.
"For someone coming from my background and from India this is a great honour," says A R Rahman.
Rahman's Slumdog score just takes his distinct Indian international repertoire a note higher. The lord of the rings musical that he did in 2007 as well as his first hit at Broadway Bombay dreams unleashed his sound on the international stage.
Spike lee used his track chhayin chhayin in his film (the)Inside Man and collaborations with Akon and Kylie are in the pipeline.
So from here on let’s get used to sharing our prize composer with the world because it seems everyone wants a piece of him.
