Branding entire bureaucracy and political leadership as corrupt not right: Murthy

Mumbai: Calling on the youth to "co-operate" with government in fighting the corruption, Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy on Wednesday said branding the entire bureaucracy and the political leadership as corrupt was not correct.

"Tarring the entire bureaucracy or tarring the entire political leadership as being corrupt is not the right way," Murthy said, speaking at a seminar `Youth for Governance', organised by the Public Concern for the Governance Trust.

Saying that the youth must vote, Murthy said, "It's a shame that Bangalore, Bombay and other major cities have had only between 42 to 46 per cent of people voting in the elections.

"Take part in voting and vote for the best candidate."

Instead of clashing with the government, the youth must cooperate with it in the fight against corruption, he said.

Regretting that his generation had not lived up to the expectations of today's young generation, Murthy said, "The generation of Nehru, Patel, Rajendra Prasad, led by Mahatma Gandhi, made tremendous sacrifices to get freedom. But I am not so sure that we lived up to your expectations...forgive us. Remember that you have to demonstrate that you are better than us."
