Now, a mediclaim policy for the wealthy

Mumbai: From deluxe rooms to chopper pickups, health is getting a high value insurance treatment. Now you could acquire the best medical treatment money can buy and still get covered by Mediclaim.

The New India Assurance, the country’s largest general insurance company, is preparing a policy for the affluent. The policy will provide cover for as high as Rs 25 lakh instead of Rs 5 lakh. And unlike other mediclaim policies, it will have no sub-limits on expenses like room rents and doctors fees.

Almost all insurance companies offer high covers of upto Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh under their group insurance policies for select employees. But they normally cover the family.

Last year Bajaj Allianz was the first to increase the limit of its retail mediclaim policy to Rs 10 lakh. But it says the policy attracted few takers.

Now New India is confident about its new high-end policy. It says it has received 40 to 50 enquiries already, mainly from film stars and other celebrities.

The premium is between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 depending on age. While the terms and conditions of the new policy are still being worked out, the insurer says it will take at least three months to hit the market.
