New Delhi: The Congress' austerity drive is gaining momentum. After economy flights and train rides, MPs and MLAs have been asked to take a 20 per cent salary cut.
They have been told to hand over the amount cut from their salaries to their respective state governments.
This move will start at the top with Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister giving up 20 per cent of their salaries.
Infact, the Gujarat Congress has gone a step ahead asking all its elected party members - including district panchayat presidents, mayors, municipal councillors and those occupying positions on the boards or corporations - to take a pay cut for one year.
The austerity drive is aimed at showing solidarity with those hit by the drought.
