Mumbai: The box office battle between this Friday's big releases - Saawariya and Om Shanti Om - promises to spill into the territory of music.
While Om Shanti Om has music by Vishal-Shekhar, Sanjay Bhansali's mega-venture has beet put to melodies by Monty.
Vishal and Shekhar's soundtrack sounds very retro and boasts of a lot of experimentation with various musical instruments.
"The music of Om Shanti Om is like a complete stretch of the early 70's. We have added a lot of variety in the songs and played with a lot of instruments, too," says composer Shekhar.
Like its theme of unrequited love, Saawariya's music also has an underlying tone of melancholy that has been quick to catch the fancy of audiences who love melodrama in all its forms. The soundtrack is already a hit and the composer is ecstatic that he has contributed in some way to the film's promotion.
"This is my first film as a music director, and I know that this film will do really do well and its going to make history," said Monty.
The music of both films is selling like hot cakes and music retailers are expecting record-breaking sales from both.
