New Delhi: It has come as a surprise for many but it is true.

In a bid to breach the international frontiers for long to the extent of holding the annual Hindi conclave in New York last year, two US states have approached India to sent in teachers who could teach its students Hindi and Arabic.

South Carolina and Connecticut approached India seeking teachers in Hindi and Arabic.

The Educil, the Public Sector Enterprise, under the ministry of HRD, is handling the recruiting for the teachers.

"We have been sending our teachers for Maths and science but now they want teachers for Hindi and Arabic as well,” says CMD, Educil, Anju Banerjee.

The demand has come as a surprise since western countries in the past have sought to employ only science and maths teachers.

The teachers in demand are primarily for secondary and senior secondary level for students in these states who are now opting to study these languages as an optional subject as part of their curriculum.

Posts have already been advertised and the representatives from the two states could visit India next month for the final selection.
