New Delhi: A father's desperate search for his 7-year-old son that began in the US has ended in Chennai on Sunday. Ravi Chandran, a pharmaceutical scientist in the United States separated from his wife Vijayshree in 2005. While a US court granted joint custody of their son Aditya to both parents, Vijayshree disappeared with Aditya in 2007.
"She (the child's mother) has been moving from hotel to hotel. Aditya has not gone to school for two years," said Ravi Chandran.
Chandran spent the last two years looking for his missing son. He set up a website called 'Rescue Aditya' and personally tracked all leads relating to his son's whereabouts. He also provided inputs of possible hideouts of mother and son to CBI, The Supreme Court had asked the CBI to investigate the matter two months ago.
"The website was very helpful. We got tremendous feedback. I got to know that Vijayshree was herself viewing the site."
Chandra alleges his former wife is mentally unstable and that a New York court had recommended psychiatric treatment for her. Chandra's concern now is for Aditya's welfare.
"She is mentally ill and I'm willing to help her. She needs treatment. I don't want to press any charges. I want Aditya to go to school."
The Supreme court will announce it's ruling on Aditya's custody on November 27, 2009. Till then, the boy will remain with the CBI authorities.
