TALCHER: A senior NTPC official in Talcher Thermal Power Station was beaten up by some youths while he was on way to office on Saturday morning.
This was the first such incident that a senior NTPC official was bashed up in the well-guarded township.
P.Shreedar, the Human Resource DGM, was assaulted near the local market in TTPS Colony.
Shreedar was dragged out of his car and beaten up severely by a group of about six youths causing multiple injuries. He was rushed to local government hospital.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and began investigation into the issue.
An FIR has been lodged in the local colliery police station, said its IIC Bhabani Udgata.
There has been discontent against the TTPS in the local affected villages due to lack of peripheral development.
Locals alleged that they had been given a raw deal by TTPS on all fronts leading to repeated agitations in the past. Attempts to contact the TTPS general manager for his comment failed.
Meanwhile, Talcher SDPO Banabihari Sahoo said efforts were on to ascertain the reasons behind the attack and identify the miscreants. No arrests have been made as yet.
