Cuttack: The test identification parade in the Kandhamal nun rape case was finally held in Cuttack.
The Orissa government had recently come in for some severe criticism from the Supreme Court for failing to control the Kandhamal violence.
Sister Meena still recalls the harrowing experience of the alleged rape. Four months after she was allegedly raped and paraded naked during the Kandhamal violence in August last year, she has identified her perpetrators.
In a test identification parade on Monday, she recognised two persons who had stripped her of her dignity.
Inspector General of Crime Branch, Arun Ray said, "The test identification parade has been successful. We expect results from the forensic evidence that has been sent to Kolkata for test and this will help us in filing charge sheet soon."
The Orissa state police now gear up to file a chargesheet in the case.
The Orrisa state government has been criticised for protecting the accused and not giving compensation to the victims.
It had come in for some severe bashing from the Supreme Court for failing to protect the minorities in Kandhmal.
The court had said that it will not tolerate any persecution of the minorities and if the state government cannot perform its duty it must quit.
The court has also directed the Orissa government and central government to maintain paramilitary forces in Kandhmal.
So far, the Orissa government has been successful in putting out the fire in Kandhmal but by its own admission the situation there remains tense. The real test for the government will be to douse the communal fire completely.
