New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday approved the revised guidelines presented by the Delhi government, with regard to the Nursery admission process across the schools in the capital.
The State Director of Education will approve the admission criteria for each school within four weeks.
The admission criteria of each school will thus be separate.
The High Court, which is hearing the matter, also clarified that schools will get a chance to informally interact with parents, but only to verify the details that have been given in the admission form.
The court also said that the admission process for this year could be extended by two weeks since it was to begin on November 30.
The Delhi government had earlier made it clear that it wants to maintain the autonomy of each school.
The division bench headed by Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna had earlier found the guidelines ‘vague’ and asked the government counsel for clarity in "wordings" while advising them to make the above-mentioned changes to the guidelines and submit them by Monday.
The bench had expressed concern about the government’s attitude of giving autonomy to the schools while framing the criteria for admission.
How far the current guidelines are followed remains to be seen. But on paper at least this move is sure to have brought a sigh of relief to the ‘harried’ parents, with the admission season just round the corner.
