Kerala terror trail: Political blame game on

Kannur: As the hunt for terrorists continues in Malabar area of Kerala, fingers are being pointed at those who nurtured them.

With reports of terror recruitment cells in Kerala emerging, the ruling CPM is blaming radical Muslim organisations such as the National Democratic Front (NDF).

“NDF is a recruiting agent of international terror outfits and it has to be controlled,” state CPM secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alleges. “NDF should stop luring the youth of Malabar to terror.”

However, many accuse CPM of nurturing many of hard-line outfits in order to counter Congress's powerful partner in Malabar — the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

“The CPM has gone for an open relationship with radical organisations like the NDF and PDP just to defeat the league. It’s a shame that CPM is ready to go hand-in-glove with any terrorist organisation just to get votes,” General Secretary, IUML, P K Kunjalikutty says.

In the last Assembly polls, NDF activists were seen actively campaigning for Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Some CPM veterans admit they played vote bank politics.

“We are a democratic party and we have all the right to play vote bank politics come what may,” MP, CPM, T K Hamsa says.

Worried at the CPM's sudden change of stand, the NDF is now crying foul.

“Why has Pinarayi Vijayan suddenly turned against us? How can a person blame us while investigations are still on,” NDF leader E Aboobacker says.
