Washington: The countdown to the White House has narrowed down to just one day. United States of America president-elect Barack Obama will take charge on Tuesday.
Following Abraham Lincoln's trail, Obama kick-started his inaugural festivities by addressing the 56th Presidential inaugural concert in Washington titled 'We Are One'.
The Obamas and vice-president-elect Joe Biden and his wife enjoyed a star-studded concert including performances by Beyonce, Bono and Bruce Springsteen.
Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King the third, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington also delivered speeches at the concert.
The concert has marked the beginning of a series of inauguration-related events across the US.
"I would want to thank all the speakers and performers today for reminding us through songs and through words what it is we love about America. Welcome to Washington and welcome to the celebration of American renewal," Obama said at the concert.
CNN-IBN Correspondent Prerna Kumar reports from Washington DC that the political event is full of glamour.
"Top musical and Hollywood stars were present. Thousands of people braved the cold, it was frigid here but that didn't dampen the spirit. It's a historic moment. It was in 1865 that slavery was abolished. Barack Obama and his wife will attend community service that will lead up to the big day on Tuesday. Swearing-in is expected to be around noon and after that there will be traditional parade, from Capitol Hill to White House," reports Prerna.
