Mumbai: After winning the US presidential race, Barack Obama’s popularity has risen even more and a very good proof of his increasing popularity is his books which are selling like hot cakes across the country.
Obama’s books are the latest favourite of all the book lovers in Mumbai.
Audacity of Hope or Dreams from my Father are already out of stock and many people have to be happy by just buying the CD.
"Every day some customers come for the books and we tell them we don't have it and they get disappointed,” says a popular bookstore, Crossword Store manager Virat Chandok.
Nearly 4,000 copies of Obama's books have been sold in India since 2007 and about 3,000 copies are expected to hit the markets by mid-November.
Worldwide, Obama's publishers expect a demand of 5 lakh copies by the end of the year. The books are already number one sellers even on websites like Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
Though readers are also picking up other books on Obama, they are hopeful that they might not have to wait long for books penned by him.
"Right now he is the president-elect, when he becomes President, I am sure there will be more books in the market,” says a book lover.
The Obamas earned $4.2 million in book royalties in 2007 and with the sales of his books rising by the day, it seems they are in for a royalty windfall.
