Obama hallmark so far: Image makeover for US

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: US President Barack Obama in his crucial prime time address on Wednesday - which marked his 100 days in office - said that the hallmark of his tenure so far had been working for America's image makeover.

For that he said he had to reverse a lot of policies - put in place by former president George W Bush - on fighting terror and strengthening the economy.

With his first executive order, President Obama shut down Guantanamo Bay, and then released the CIA's torture memos.

Obama has even tried to reach out to the Muslim world and America's foes, a significant departure from Bush's war policy.

Under Obama the focus has shifted from Iran to Afghanistan. He is talking tough to Pakistan and upping the pressure on the country to fight the Taliban. But his biggest challenge is of reviving the economy.

Obama's policies, however, are yet to have an impact. Nonetheless, he has thanked the people of America for their support in these tough times.

"We have lot of work to do. US will see a better day. I thank the people of America for their support and patience in these trying times. We will work with you to make America the country that it can be," he said in a televised address to the nation.
