Ahmedabad: The Indian Institutes of Management might defer the release of their final list of admission for this academic year following the Supreme Court order on 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Castes (OBC).
"We were planning to release the admission list by April 11 but this decision is taken by all institutes together. So I think we have to go back to other institutes and see whether we need to postpone it by a few days to be able to study the judgement," IIM-A director Sameer Barua said.
Barua also added that he could not say if the quality of students will suffer as a result of the verdict.
"We will abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court. I cannot say at this moment whether the verdict will have an impact on the quality. That will depend on the quality of the students that we get this year," Barua said.
"We have not received the copy of the order yet and are not clear what SC has said about the implementation of the OBC quota in IIMs," Barua added.
The Director of IIM-Kolkata Dr. Shekhar Chowdhary indicated the OBC quota could be implemented this year itself.
"From my institutes point of view we are preparing ourselves because last year when the OBC reservation quota did not come, we were getting ready, then of course we delayed the process. For my institute, I do not foresee any problem at all. We are in the process of upgrading our infrastructure and what we have planned to do for the first year of the implementation we will be ready," Chowdhary said.
