Mumbai: The deadly Tsunami hit parts of India and swept across Andaman and Nicobar islands in December 2004. Now filmmaker Rajesh Shera narrates a touching story of struggle from the Tsunami-hit islands, which are used as the backdrop in his film.
It's the story of an old school teacher played by Tom Alter who loses five of his students and his wife to the tidal waves.
"I happened to be there after a month or so of the Tsunami hitting the area. There I met many people and it affected me a lot in the sense that it connected with my mind, soul and emotions. This made me to believe in making something on the tragedy," said Rajesh Shera.
Shooting in the Tsunami-hit islands and meeting the victims everyday was an unforgettable experience for the cast and crew of the film.
"The sequence of shooting underwater with the children - who were supposed to be dead - was a mystical sort of a scene. The camera was underwater and looking into the camera and holding hands was a sort of a, not supernatural, but very holy experience for me," says actor Tom Alter.
Ocean of An Old Man has done its festival rounds and has been appreciated by critics. Now the filmmaker is looking forward to its commercial release this week.
