Bhubaneswar: The ABVP's Odisha unit on Tuesday protested outside the Bhubaneswar airport over the participation of the Pakistani cricket team in the upcoming women's world cup tournament. The activists protested outside the airport where BCCI members arrived earlier on Tuesday morning. They are to assess preparations for the matches.
On Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a meeting with the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and assured them that the matches would be allowed to be held smoothly at Cuttack. The OCA is likely to host 11 matches in Cuttack, starting on February 1, involving Pakistan, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, an ABVP member said, "We have warned the BCCI and the Odisha government against this and if they still go ahead, they will face the consequences if the matches are held in Cuttack. We cannot tolerate the beheading of our soldier and allowing the matches here involving Pakistani players."
